"Leonard Classic" according to Amazon Customer. I have been on a Leonard spree, just finished Ride the Rap and Out of Sight. I have been wanting to watch Lancaster in Valdez is Coming, but thought I would read the book, since I haven't yet. As usual, it was a page turner.Even though this came out originally in 1970, it's still a bit ahead of it's time.. "OK, Not Greeat" according to Colt. This is your typical "revenge" story, but not quite believable. I just can't see the protagonist going through what he did for the reason he did. Also, Leonard has never been very good with his endings, and this was his worst of all. It's almost like he just decided to stop writing. Still, if you like his. "Take Special Note, Valdez IS Coming!" according to Mike Holmes. Elmore Leonard writes a western tale as well as he does anything else - which is to say, VERY well! While having components of the "wrong ed hero - revenge" format, Valdez Is Coming manages to be much more. A good tale, regardless of the venue, but an especially good story of the American west.
