Powerful and Personal Suttons book is a very powerful book about the harsh realities of life for many Indigenous Australians in the context of significant policy changes over the last few years. It will resonate to any one who has lived and worked in remote Australia. He is an anthropologist but is also writing about people he knows and what has happened to them. There are harsh truths. The failure of policy and programs to improve the life circum. "An excellent, heart-felt, brave and much-needed book. Great service." according to Jennykching. I would highly recommend this refreshing and very honest book, written by someone who has spent many decades personally observing and considering the problems described. It has caused some controversy for daring to go against the established view and pointing out that the return to the land has been far from the panacea it was once thought to be. The book came quickly and was in excellent condition.. "Truthfulness" according to Dr Helen Hopkins. As Peter Sutton says is not necessarily a good uniter of peopleVery challenging and provocative ideas to be absorbed and digested by myself as a southern urban soft left Indigenous supporter.
Erroneously, however, this same period saw a decline in safety, health, literacy, numeracy, and employment within the Aboriginal community. Groundbreaking and informative, this document offers fresh insight and hope for a new era in indigenous politics.. Debunking past attempts to improve the tragic situation of many Aboriginal communities, this record discusses the reforms that granted land rights and encouraged traditional cultures, in the hope that this empowerment would be beneficial. Combining original observation with deep emotional engagement, this provocative book argues that, despite claims to the contrary, the quality of life of indigenous Australians did not improve between 1970 and the year 2000
