The Open Range Men Wild Bill53 Keven Costner's movie "Open Range" was based on this novel. I found it to be a highly enjoyable read and the detail the author puts into his story line is compelling. If you like Westerns, this should be added to your list of must reads. It details the tension that developes as society changes, moving from the expansive wide open ranges as America moved west to the "intrusion" of communities that slowly closes off the open range. The two primary characters realize they are part of a dying breed- Open Range Men - much i. The Open Range Men Very very good book. It was adapted into a big screen movie and in it's own rights it was one of my favorite movies. But the book is so much different and better than the movie. I would recommend seeing the movie first though.. The movie was better than the book this time Saw the movie first, then bought the book thinking the book is is usually better then the movie. Turned out not to be true in my opinion in this case. No need for spoiler alert, but I will say that about the first half off the book tracked the movie plot fairly closely, but then veered completely off to what I thought was a much less satisfying conclusion, with some of the best characters from the movie missing entirely from the book. Think even if I'd read the book first - which I usually do - I'd still like the movie
