When my copy of this new ghost story anthology arrived, I showed it to my mother, who reads Stephen King and likes a good ghost story but otherwise isn't much interested in horror. She promptly laid claim to it, and because I already had enough horror piled up to be getting on with, I let her take it. Within the drafty rooms of an old house, a tarnished locket tumbles to the floor. But sometimes they are driven by much stronger emotions, menacing and diabolical motives that take us up from our reading to check the hallways, secure the locks and question how firmly anchored we ourselves are to our world.. Their characters are spirits, without bodies but still floating in our world. Some are motivated by love, others by loss or guilt. Ghosts, phantoms, revenants, lost souls — all these troubled spirits have unfinished business on this side of the veil. Doomed to seek out mortal answers, unable to rest until in death, they accomplish what they failed to achieve in life. This hair-raising collection of haunted tales brings together both new writers and celebrated masters — Ramsey Campbell, Christopher Fowler, Neil Gaiman, Richard Matheson, Michael Marshall Smith and others — for the ultimate collection from beyond the grave. The haunted souls of the dearly departed are still among us. THE RESTLESS DEADLife is over but the dead live on

Whatever th. "Best ghost anthology in years!" according to Paul Campbell. The originals being from such stalwarts as Christopher Fowler, Michael Marshall Smith, the wonderful Lisa Tuttle and Tanith Lee and rising short story stars Sarah Pinborough, Robert Shearman and Simon Kurt Unsworth.Of Jones's many `Mammoth Book of' volumes with Robinson/Running Press (vampires, werewolves, zombies etc.) he has never done a Mammoth Book of Ghosts - due to the great . Terryb said High quality stories. Well written and an excellent way to discover new writers. I love the short stories and it is my preferred way of sampling new genres before embarking on full novels. This collection is of a high quality.
