The characters care about one another, and before long you care about them. It's rare to find a book with such a balance of life's ups and downs . And that balance is probably what it's all about.. I barely read any novel but this book shocked me I barely read any novel but this book shocked me to the bones. The way McMurtry depicts the characters' personalities, feelings & thoughts is so real and unique that I almost forgot that I was reading a novel.
