Johnny out does himself on this one Heavens knows what pains an author has been at to give some chance reader a few hours' relaxation to while away the tedium of a journey or relax on a day off. But Johnny has done just that with The Valley of Fire. Masterfully written, humorous, serious at times, graphic at times, he has generated a fabulous story about an orphan raised by nuns who turns hooligan and outlaw. His protagonist sitting a jail cell awaiting execution, gets rescued by another outlaw and a of all things, a nun. The story blossoms from there, and as Johnny'. zladyx said A good romp of a read.. This book has more two-legged varmits and mean hombres than the Ok Corral. Throw in a kind of shady but good hearted in spite of himself "hero", a spunky sometimes-nun as the heroine, a blind, one-armed all-the-time nun as a sidekick, a treasure in gold hidden a hell hole that could kill a rattlesnake and you have one good romp of a read. First time reading this author. Will definitely read him again.. I thoroughly enjoyed this book Robert L. Marion I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It definitely isn't your run of the mill Western yarn. Boggs seems to be the O. Henry of the Western genre. He writes with wit and usually has a twist at the end. This story had elements of "Two Mules for Sister Sara" and a novel I read years ago by James M. Cain, but above all it was amusing. I would highly recommend this book as well as most of Boggs' other books to anyone looking for an an enjoyable read
