One reason may be that regardless of how busy my day has been and how tired I am when I go to bed at night, I absolutely have to read before I go to sleep. A collection of short stories is perfect. Unlike a novel or nonfiction book, a short story seems the right length to relax me and engage my mind during those late hours. When the collection, While You Were Out, first caught my attention, I was a bit skeptical. I wondered about the theme of st. Anne Crofts said Loved This. I rarely read short stories but this book was a gift from a dear friend so I read it. How glad I am that I did; every story is a gem on its own and each has left me with much to think about. It is good to know that there are extremely talented authors out there, given the trash that is often on the bookstore shelves. I thoroughly recommend this book and I agree with another reviewer that, sometimes a short story is just enough when there are time constraints.. Neat Set countdoogal Stories are loyal to the resurrection theme and it binds them together. Author writing styles are extremely different. Recommend giving time between each story to let them sink in. Otherwise, you may finish the book in a few hours. Another good one from CCC.
