Amazon Customer said Another Impossible-To-Put-Down Novel. The story has numerous twists and turns combined with hard-hitting action. Cato and Macro again are up to their necks in adventure and intrigue - this time assigned to the marines of Rome's Mediterranean naval forces. There are a number of new factors introduced which will keep the reader guessing up to the end.. Cato and Macro leave Britannia Scarrow's sixth novel featuring the adventures of the grizzled centurion Macro and his able sidekick Cato takes them out of their comfort zone of the Augusta II in Britannia and plonks them in Rome. It was only a matter of time before we saw how Scarrow would deal with Rome and he neatly avoids it by having a quick trip to the races where their remaining monies are lost in a cloud of crash dust one hundred feet from the finish line and describing a squalid room in the the Subaran district. Other than a final visit to the imperial palace to see Narcissus, Scarrow avoids the place entirely.It's a few months aft. "Kill Them All" and other niceties Scarrow reminds me a bit of Bernard Cornwell in his gory and realistic descriptions of the battle scenes. I'm never sure how much that adds to the story line, but it certainly brings about the savagery of the age where soldiers stood nose-to-nose and were incited by their officers to "Kill them all." The dialogue between Marco and Cato gets out of the period once in awhile and takes on the character of two guys shooting the s*** on some modern army post. But it is a good read and if you are vicariously wired you will feel the vivid heat of battle, smell the blood and perhaps in a moment of unrestrained enthus
