Great read!! First John Smolens novel, and really enjoyed it. Am from Michigan, but not the UP, but like reading anything from an area that I am emotionally acquainted with. There actually was a WWII prisoner of war camp in Au Train, as I discovered after completion of my read. Kept my interest throughout. Also a big fan of Steve Hamilton.. "Smolens is terrific. Nobody does the bleakness of the U" according to J. C. Rammelkamp. Smolens is terrific. Nobody does the bleakness of the U.P. like Smolens. The Nazi war criminal trial story was also interesting.. "Who knew?" according to Kathleen Dyer. Interesting history of Michigan few know about.

“In Wolf ’s Mouth, John Smolens delivers a thrilling story of good versus evil: part Upper Peninsula woods adventure, part rags-to-riches tale, part love story. It’s beautifully and thoughtfully written, and it’s bound to become part of Michigan’s folk history.” —Bonnie Jo Campbell, author of Mothers, Tell Your Daughters and National Book Award finalist American Salvage
