Jeffrey Kevin Hobbs said What adventure novels were meant to be.. I read this beginning of the Sackett family series many years ago and enjoyed it just as much now as then. Few authors can recreate a setting and time period as well as L'Amour. And his description of combat whether hand to hand or with weapons is incredibly real.. "A good read" according to Trisha Faulk. He's always been a great writer, and I just had to start the Sacketts at the beginning. It was a really good start. Hope the next takes it to the next building step. This is kind of like a first chapter of a larger book.. "Wonderful as Usual" according to Amazon Customer. L'Amour perhaps the greatest "Teller of Tales", not Tall Tales but he is like someone relating events he was part of, not just a witness.This is a GREAT intro to a tapestry that is the SACKETTS
