I had some trepidation about buying this book, but I was curious about what Hackman could do, and the plot looked interesting.As it turned out, I was well pleased with the results. Gene Hackman does a good job of pulling you into the action right from the beginning, and you start rooting for the protaganist immediately. The impetus for the story is the slaughter of Jubal Young's family by a gang of vile heathens, one of which you'd like to see die immediately. The story follows Jubal as . "Old West comes to life!!" according to Catherine Steele. Very good storline. True to life characters and situations about what we know about the Old West.. "Oh, Gene" according to Amazon Customer. "Oh yes, Mr. Hackman, this definitely would have been published even if you weren't famous." The saddest part of a novel that starts with the terrible and depraved murder of a young man's beloved parents and sister is the fact that an editor and literary agent almost certainly must have uttered those words to treasured actor Gene Hackman. To compound the sorrow, Mr. Hackman's proudly beaming picture on the back cover suggests that he actually believed them.The plot could be straight out
