"Don't expect to know the truth from the media" according to Patricia Herren. A collection of articles by journalist who attempted to address events that were squelched by their editors or publishers for a variety of reasons. If you have realized that truth was taking a beating in the media this book will fill in the blanks for you. I got the book when I saw the name Gerald Colby in the review. Mr Colby is the author of Behind the Nylon Curtain about the DuPonts and Thy Will Be Done about the Rockefellers. He tells how these books were suppressed by the publisher despite the sales. I also recommend Thy Will Be Done . It's very revealing!. A Free Press? I highly recommend this book to both those who read the news and to those who report it.As an already extreme skeptic of American news sources, I thought this book would be more entertaining and not so much informative for me. It is actually more informative and shocking than I ever expected. This book not only provides information you may never have heard before about some high profile news stories, it tells how this information was obtained and the price journalists paid to report it, or try to report it. It has varied views from varied journalists regarding their take on the American media today. Its an easy book to read, as you can't stop. How Our Mass Media is Censored, Distorted, and Silenced. 'Into the Buzzsaw: Leading Journalists Expose the Myth of a Free Press' edited by Kristina Borjesson is a "must read" book for every concerned citizen. The authors show how our media and book publishing industries are strongly controlled by corporate interests. Borjesson does a particularly good job, for example, of showing how the investigation of TWA flight 800 was so intensely influenced by the government that the real story never came to light. This is an important book and it is shocking to find out how much pressure is put on free-thinking, professional journalists to present news according to the interests and agendas of big instituti

Most of the sentiments here are especially relevant given the current reports of the war in Afghanistan and questions of their validity, making this timely and essential reading for students and scholars of journalism. To the uninitiated reader, the accounts of what goes on behind the scenes at major news organizations are shocking. From Publishers Weekly In this uneven yet illuminating anthology, editor Borjesson succinctly explains the journalist's predicament: "The buzzsaw is what can rip through you when you try to investigate or expose anything this country's large institutions be they corporate or government want kept under wraps." Indeed, if members of the general public read this

With a foreword by Gore Vidal and edited by former CBS and CNN producer Kristina Borjesson, this highly acclaimed anthology has been described as "fascinating and disturbing," "uplifting" and "infuriating," and a "penetrating collection of powerful essays." The original edition won the National Press Club’s Arthur Rowse Award for Press Criticism and was selected by the New York Public Library as one of the most extraordinary titles of 2002.. Leading journalists from Fox News, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, newspapers, and other outlets—including Dan Rather, Ashleigh Banfield, Robert McChesney, Greg Palast, Pulitzer Prize and Emmy winners, and more—recount the press censorship they experienced in the wake of 9/11 security concerns
