"An Epic Tale" according to Coloxfer. Heart of the Country is what I would call an epic story and a most unusual central character, Joe Cobden. The expanse of the story is almost like a Charles Dickens story. One looks at the trials and hardships of the characters in the 1800s in the United States and wonders why people today think they are so mistreated. Don't think I will ever forget the main character or that time in our history when the buffalo would never be wiped out.. New favorite author Somewhere I'd read Stephen King mention how great this book was. I was NOT disappointed. So glad I discovered this author. After Heart of the Country, I immediately ordered almost every other Greg Matthews book. Fantastic writing, captivating characters, immersive world.
