A GREAT HISTORY LESSON WRITTEN AS HISTORY SHOULD BE WRITTEN Jackie AS WE DIDN'T STUDY MUCH ABOUT THE MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR IN SCHOOL, I FOUND THIS BOOK VERY INTERESTING AND INFORMARIVE. HERE ARE THE OFICIERS AND SOME ENLISTED MEN WHO FOUGHT EACH OTHER NOT TOO MANY YEARS LATER IN THECIVIL WAR. THE AUTHOR IS GREAT AT DEVELOPING THE PERSONALITIES. YOU CAN IMAGINE YOURSELF WATCHING THE BATTLES DEVELOPE. I THINK MY FAVORITE IS WINFIELD SCOTT AS HE IS NOT AS WELL KNOWN AS SOME OF THE OTHERS.

Headstrong, brilliant, and generally distrustful of his less able subordinates, Scott leads the U.S. This sympathy between the two men grows as Lee observes Scott embroiled in the distracting politics of war: officers salivating for promotion, enemies more preoccupied with saving face than lives, distant legislators issuing directives.
