Jeff said I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed this book. It presents life, and life's ups and downs, in what it could have been like for those who tried to join the wagon trains heading west. I liked very much Schanbacher's portrayals of well developed complex characters as they abandoned earlier life patterns and took enormous risks getting to their new homesteads and then surviving the elements. The scene of the locusts attack was compelling and graphic. It was a lovely way to spend the weekend; I look forward to Gary's next book.. Deeply stirring Libby Kalinowski Crossing Purgatory is a novel of emotional pain, the struggle to overcome loss, and eventual redemption. The writing is clean and an excellent representation of contemporary western writing.. Understanding the human capacity to give up all It was an interesting read.
