"Disturbing but powerful" according to Robert Walford. Reads a little like David Morrell's First Blood mixed with elements of James Dickey's Deliverance. What worked for me (at least) in this story is that the character I felt most sympathetic for was the Vietnam Veteran who's wartime experience has ruined him for family and civilization. The characters he hunts are really a despicable lot, each in their own way. The overly self-important writer. His wife who allows him to carry on an extra-marital affair under their roof.
