Disappointing Basically I agree with the 2-star and 1-star reviewers here. Yes, I know the atrocities have happened and in all likelihood are still happening, but the book just doesn't give the problem the serious and thorough account and analysis it deserves. Instead it's a monotonous and opinionated rant, and a badly written one to boot, which is inexplicable - and inexcusable, considering the author is a journalist.. Understanding Burma Mon Burma A Nation at the Crossroads is a great read. If you are wanting to understand the complexities of Burma's Political and Social situation this book is essential. It is written with honesty and integrity with respect to all involved in the struggle for Freedom and Democracy in Burma. The Author tells history that reflects what has happened in central Burma and also the ethnic minority areas giving a balanced o. "A rant rather than well informed" according to kay Irwin. A Christian rant rather than an informative book about Burma. Understanding the reasons behind human rights abuses requires a much fuller view of history.
