Old life style living by an author who lived very differently. I read these stories more than seventy years ago and the were no less exciting now than they were then. Picturing hard men with surprising touches of human kindness and true morality.. "more grim than I was ready for" according to michael steinrok. It is great period writing. It shows a great deal of grit and determination and of struggle. It has a lot more tragedy than I was prepared for. I had no idea it was like that. A good read but a stirring and sometimes hard read.. Buzz said LUCKY!. This book was read to me every day in grade 7 English class. My son, grade 8, started reading it. He had a hard time with the cowboy words. People don't watch cowboy shows like they used did years ago.
