Good summertime reading J Chase I rented a shore house last summer and this was one of many books in the rental unit. I like horror stories and short stories are great for quick fixes while hanging at the beach or by the pool. I liked the book so much that I decided to get my own copy for a great price.. filthylucre said Loved this book. Loved this book. Read it when I was in junior high and many of the stories stuck with me. Not all winners, of course, but this introduced me to Lovecraft ("Pickman's Model"). Still one of my favorites of his. Also good are "The Screwfly Solution," "Chico La Fleur Talks Funny," and "Peekaboo." I still have my copy. It's worth picking up.. I suspect that the story One Happy Family was the inspiration for Katherine Dunn's later novel John S. McFarland An outstanding classic collection. I suspect that the story One Happy Family was the inspiration for Katherine Dunn's later novel Geek Love. Many similarities and OHF came first.
