It shines a light on the ground-breaking, but entirely unrecognized, contributions they have already made to the world, and exposes the inconvenient truth that their survival is in everyone's interest.Excellent introduction: all-encompassing, easy to read, evocative, passionate, and powerful where it needs to be. Prof Roy Ellen, President (2007-2009), Royal Anthropological Institute, UKWell conceived and persuasive, a worthy testimony to Corry's impressive lifetime commitment and to the reminder which he has consistently imparted to anthroplogists over four decades, that they have a moral responsibility to publicize the predicament of indigenous peoples. Jonathan Benthall, Director (1974-2000), Royal Anthropological Institute, UKA book everyone must read - powerful stories of the harsh realities of both assimilation and rejecti

Much needed 'Must Read' safeinhevndead With 'Tribal Peoples', director of NGO Survival International, (group campaigning for indigenous, tribal, and uncontacted peoples' rights), Stephen Corry has provided an outstanding overview of the peoples his organization works for. Starting by creating a workable definition of 'indigenous', 'tribal', and 'peoples', the book goes on to focus on tribal peoples, or those communities whose lives can be self sustained with little to no outside help. He describes where these communities live, what daily life is like, and what pressures they have faced historically and currently deal with. A main point is made that it is wrong to view the. Hiker_Mike said MUST READ THEN TAKE ACTION. This is an amazing book that will change your mind about tribal people all over the world. Im a comedian who know shares the fact that these people laugh a 1000 times more then we do in a day. That they still practice farming techniques that keep the land healthier then modern men could ever think of. After reading this i think these tribal people are more advanced then we are living in america! I love the book and I love Survival International!!I also read The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon and it confirmed that the people in south america were the greatest civilization and what happened to them. Read both. Thought provoking and important questions This book didn't change my life, but it has affected my thinking on the role of tribal peoples in the modern context. Of all the ways people have lived and do live in the history of Earth, technological civilization is only one of them. This book strongly argues that those who consider themselves "modern" or "civilized" do not have any claim over the lives or land of peoples who live differently. Not being a book reviewer, I won't go on at length, but I recommend the book to anyone who has thought about the question of how different groups can live on the same planet.
