Shocking Casey Hicks It's a really hefty read, but well worth it. McCoy describes American fascination with torture in the media, the roles of those involved in torture, the contradictory nature of US policy, how loopholes were left open for impunity, and much more. Great book to read if you're interested at all in human rights. Although, at times the reading could leave me quite jarred and I would have to put the book down for a bit. Very graphic and disturbing at some parts, so keep that in mind. However, I feel that this is fundamental reading.. Five Stars A shockingly interesting account of the CIA's research into psychological manipulation and torture. Engrossing and terrifying.. Redundant but Still an Important Read Though the content is mindblowing and heartbreaking there are some writing techniques that annoyed me so profusely that it distracted from the content. The entire introduction is a chapter by chapter play by play and Ch. 1 is covered in "As you'll read in chapter two". It would be better to leave out the obvious. The introduction is meant to introduce what we'll be reading but a subtle approach goes a long way in engaging readers. May as well have replaced Introduction with SPOILER ALERT.
