The first one was, in my judgment, the best of the three. This book, To Die In Glory, is so far the final in the series. I liked this book because I like the main character in these stories, Detective Simms of the Pinkerton Agency. His character has real meat as a western man. He is far from a perfect man, even falls into bed with a really evil character in this book, despite being in mourning over the loss of his w. first is best the others less so The main character turns into a wimp. I read the other 2 in order. The first is best.
But soon his skills are called upon again, as he hears of a telegram sent from Glory, crying for help. Three men ride into the town of Glory and by the look of them, they are not coming to enjoy themselves. Promises will be broken and people will die. And in the end, Simms will have to use all his guile and experience to survive.. Having found love only to have it cruelly snatched away from him, his only way of facing the loss of Noreen is to seek solace from the bottom of a bottle. What do the outlaws want, and why did they ruthlessly murder the sheriff? Meanwhile, things are not going too well for Detective Simms. Their meeting with the local sheriff can only have one outcome, and as the sheriff lies gunned down after an orgy of violence, the town is plunged into a nightmare of uncertainty and fear
