A convention was called to amend the articles. Two weeks later, the Continental Congress began working on the Articles of Confederation to create a government for the new country. On July 4, 1776, the United States declared itself a free and independent nation. Over the next 210 years there were seventeen more amendments. By 1787 that government was found to be ineffective. The original texts are actually MUCH clearer than this book's attempts to "translate" documents already written in English. There are a few (no more than ten) terms the average sixth grader might need to look up in the actual documents, but that's a much better use of your time than reading this book. Frankly,. I found this little book to be the perfect study guide for the Constitution test. I think a good study guide does more than force the memorization of facts.
