The Shepherd Audio book This is a story of an English pilot stationed in Germany who is trying to make his way to his home in England in time for Christmas.I had version of this story on cassette till it broke, that version was read by Robert Ferguson (an Englishman) which I found to be more genuine and really brought the story to life.If ever get that version on audio cd please let me know as I would like to purchase it, this is one of my favorite stories. Thank you.. but was disappointed in this book George Mosby I am a big Frederick Forsyth fan, but was disappointed in this book. This book is very short, about like a chapter in a regular Forsyth book. The story is pretty limited in scope. Evidently it is popular among some airplane pilots, for reasons that are obvious if you read it. Just don't expect it to be like a more typical Forsyth book involving espionage.. Rod Serling meets Stephen Coonts A fine easy reading novella with a bit of suspense.A 1950's British fighter pilot runs into mechanical, weather, and fuel problems. Things are bleak until a mysterious escort (The Shepherd) in a vintage prop driven fighter shows up as an escort towards safety. I'll leave it at that.The story is more than a bit predictable and the reader can easily "see it coming". Still, Forsyth sets the bleak winter scene well and with appropriate British decorum.
