Another good western. Even with a book as unpolished as this one Louis L'Amour holds your interest until the last page. Let new authors follow his principles, techniques, common sense, and study of the west to create present day westerns worth reading. No vulgar language, sex, immoral behaviour is needed to hold a reader's interest. Good story lines, good editing, lots of hard work, and not giving up no matter how many rejection slip you get will give us wonderful stories. This story is a very good western, well worth you time.. "Open Range warfare" according to William W. Mouroux. The Rider of Lost Creek, The Mountain Valley War, and KilKenny books are all well written andin sequence. Strongly recommend one read them in sequence listed in order to appreciate thesignificance of the actions taken. Basically, all three stories work around the same basic plotin that all are open range type wars in which one rancher has the resources to steal or force outother homesteaders. I had a problem trying to fathom the Kilkenny book because the endingof The Mountain Valley War seemed to have a fine closing. But enjoyed all three nevertheless.. "Good western" according to Nana9. I am a fan of western novels and of Louis L'Amour in particular. However, this one seemed pretty weak compared to most of his works. It was going along very well until the last couple of chapters. The fist fight sequence was way too long and nothing was really settled by it. The final battle was unlikely and he should have stayed with the girl.

Whoever is stirring up trouble has big ideas for the Live Oak country—and an army of hired guns to back them up

"L’Amour is the kind of storyteller who makes the wolves come out of the woods to listen." -- People
