As the story shows, he was not acting alone, but always with others. The event made front-page news around the world. It starts with a press conference he held in 1964 at which he read a letter to Pope Paul VI asking him to remove Cardinal McIntyre from office as Archbishop of Los Angeles because of his opposition to the civil-rights movement.The next four chapters describe the conflicts with the Cardinal that led up to the press conference

William DuBay wrote an excellent story about the racial turmoil and how the Los Angeles Catholic Diocese Archbishop, Cardinal McIntyre, tried to hijack his priests from speaking out against racism in the 60's.
