Kevin Downing said Important read to really understand what is going on with the LRA. I bought this book for research but ended up captivated by the emotional content.. Very informative DaveB The book goes into detail about Joseph Kony and the LRA mass abduction of children and genocidal killing of civilians by the Ugandan border. The writer is a journalist that met Joseph Kony and member of the LRA command and has recorded many interviews with children and fighters that were abducted plus case studies of the alleged number and ages of the abductees. This is a very informative book with alot of information on the LRA,local armies and countries fighting the against Kony's rebels. Scott said Best resource on the LRA. If you are interested in learning more about the LRA conflict, this is perhaps the best single resource for the topic. The book covers all of the primary aspects of the conflict: the experience of being in the LRA, the politics of the war, problems with how we understand the LRA, the role of the ICC, etc. It also includes a very good analysis of the Juba Peace Process. The contributors are among the top LRA scholars today. I'm a graduate student working on the LRA and this book is usually my go-to resource. It's bibliography also is a good starting point for further research.
"Essential reading for anyone interested in the conflict in Uganda and in 'terror' more generally." -- David Keen, Professor of Complex Emergencies, LSE
The Lord's Resistance Army is Africa's most extraordinarily persistent and notorious terrorist group. Since their rebellion in northern Uganda began in 1987, the group is estimated to have abducted an estimated 30,000 children as well as committing a series of massacres and other horrific human rights abuses against the local population. Led by the mysterious Joseph Kony, who in 2005 was indicted by the International Criminal Court, they remain a group that inspires both fascination and fear. Authoritative but provocative, The Lord's Resistance Army provides the most comprehensive analysis of the group available, dismantling numerous myths and providing a wealth of information that is not widely known. From the issue of child soldiers to the response of the Ugandan government, the book looks at every aspect of this most brutal of conflicts, and even includes a remarkable first-hand interview with Joseph Kony himself.
