Five Stars One of the best Civil War books ever written. You are there!. Priscilla Savary said To Miss the Opportunity to Read This Historical Novel Would Be Tragic. Rather than the straight facts, this is what everyone should read first when they read about the Civil War. It puts into context the behavior of so many on both sides. The writing is stellar. The historical characters become living breathing people instead of military figures in a history book. Real life is never simple and this book definitely captures that. Seriously well researched.. "Was Robert E. Lee Wrong at Gettysburg?" according to John J. Bailey. The Killer Angels helped me to understand the battle at Gettysburg during America's Civil War. If follows the time leading up to the battle and takes the reader through the battle and brings the characters to life. I've read many books about this horrid battle but Killer Angels ties everything together and highlights the people who fought in it. Based on fact, it helps the reader see this war and the decisions that were made on both sides that lead to victory or defeat. It also makes you wonder about Robert E. Lee's decision making.
