The system he describes is, in many ways, eerily similar to the Soviet-era Gulag. His book is based on reports by former officials, Christian missionaries,. "Interesting contempory account of a seldom heard story" according to David Cawthon. I read this after reading "King Leopold's Ghost". It is an interesting contemporary view of the era, and covers material omitted from the "Ghost" book, namely that not all the Belgians went long with the atrocities - many committed suicide rather than be part of it.. good reading makes 1 wonder what the European Nations and good reading makes 1 wonder what the European Nations and their quest for conquer all over the world .well now all countries are experiencing a huge backlash
