Drawing from a vast selection of historical documentation, Fairman also explores the nature of taboo and related trivia, such as the word's usage across gender lines. @$#*%! Our most taboo word and how the law keeps it forbidden. This entertaining read is about the word "fuck", the law, and the taboo. Fundamentally, it persists because it is taboo; not in spite of it.. When it's the government trying to cleanse your language, though, you should worry. It also explains why attempts to curtail the use of "fuck" through law are doomed to fail. If the government controls the words we use, it can control what we think. If you seek Amy. FIRST A NOTE ON STYLE: Contrary to the statements of author Christopher Fairman, it is not the position of this writer that any reviewer treating his book or the law review article from which it stems is required to actually use the title of his work instead of some euphemism such as the f word or [] in writing about this material. "Excellent." according to William R. Toddmancillas. An important book on free speech. Odd that I was not able to includein review the word prominently appearing in the title. Rather makesthe case that this word is controversial, misunderstood, and shouldnot be restricted as per First Amendment Rights.Book arrived quickly in excellent condition. I highly recommend this book Marla Craddick I used this book for a research paper on the topic and found Fairman's writing extremely readable and his ideas well explained and accessible. The book itself is well organized, with chapters dedicated to each major idea or court case. Again, I want to stress the readability of this book as many attorneys do not know how to write for the lay person. Fairman's style melds humor with poignant prose regarding the nature of the First Amendment and how it is threatened by our cultural attachment to word taboo
