The hero of the book is Jamie Ian McCallister, and he settles a small valley, known as McCallister's Valley, and, throoughout the book, the sittlement is attack by various outlaws, and Jamie has to go on the warpath to get back at them. The tale also includes McCallister's sons who also do the same thing. I loved this book and I think it is a great book to start out on if you are reading westerns!
